Bird Watching in the Pyrenees
Bird watching is particularly popular and often fully booked very early in the year.
Species vary with the seasons, i.e. Spring & Autumn migration.

Bearded Vulture

Just some of the bird Species often encountered in or around the Ariege are:

Bearded Vulture (breeding locally), Bonellis eagle, Capercaillie, Tengmalms owl, Eagle Owl,
Black Woodpecker, White Backed Woodpecker, Wall Creeper, Snow finch, Short Toed Eagle, Griffon & Egyptian vultures, Citril Finch, Subalpine Warbler, Alpine Accentor, Rock Thrush, Golden Oriole,
Black Wheatear, Rock Sparrow, Hoopoe and many, many more.

Lammergeier breeding sites are always popular; watching these magnificent raptors with their 3-metre wingspan carrying out dramatic aerial displays is an experience never to be forgotten.

Your 7 day Bird Watching/Walking Holiday includes:

Pick up and drop off from Carcassonne or Toulouse Airport, 7 nights accommodation, 5 days transported and accompanied walks, daily continental breakfast, picnic lunches and freshly prepared home cooked evening meals served with wine within your accommodation.
Tea and coffee are always available in your accommodation.
We also specialise in vegetarian cooking, please request when booking.

The Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier), Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle, Egyptian Vulture have all been seen flying over the house were you will be staying.
Red squirrels, Edible dormice (it's ok they’re not on our menu!) Fly Catchers; Bull Finches & Crested tits are just a few that have been breeding in the grounds.
A regular visitor to the garden is the Black Woodpecker.

Ariege is one of the few places in the Pyrenees where you may have the opportunity to encounter Brown Bears.
